Varun Dhawan's Bhediya inspired Maddock Supernatural Universe - Amar Kaushik spills the beans

Stree 2-famed director Amar Kaushik has opened up about how Varun Dhawan's Bhediya might have underperformed at the Box Office but changed the game when it came to horror-comedies produced under Maddock. It was where the concept of Maddock Supernatural Universe was executed. The filmmaker, in a recent interview, explained how that was possible. Interestingly, this information comes ahead of Ayushmann Khurrana's Thama release in theatres.

Bhediya inspired Maddock Supernatural Universe

Varun Dhawan's Bhediya served as the inception point for Maddock Supernatural Universe. Amar Kaushik explained during his interview with Game Changers that Bhediya was where he thought about bringing in the character of Jana. This is where it was established that all kinds of supernatural beings are attracted to Jana. The same is also possible because the original movie Stree saw Jana being kidnapped and coming back home in fear of his 'Stree didi.' He was the only man to be returned back home, opening up a hidden mystery that the makers thought should be tapped upon. It is during the making of Bhediya that Amar Kaushik thought that the films can be expanded into Maddock Supernatural Universe. Thus, the very concept came into being.

Maddock Supernatural Universe expands even further

Till now, we have seen the OG Rajkummar Rao-Shraddha Kapoor's Stree, Varun Dhawan-Kriti Sanon's Bhediya and Abhay Varma-Sharvari's Munjya. However, Maddock Supernatural Universe would not end with that. We are yet to be introduced to a lot more, including Ayushmann Khurrana-Rashmika Mandanna's vampire film, Thama. This is where Varun's warewolf would fight Ayushmann's vampire in what is believed to an epic battle. Apart from that, we also have Kiara Advani's Shakti Shalini and Alia Bhatt-Aamir Khan's Chamunda. Once these characters are established, the universe would lead to two Mahayudhs, which are expected to be India's version of Endgame.
