Last week, fans of Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan eagerly awaited the OTT release of his previous movie, Bhediya . Unfortunately, the highly anticipated release didn't happen as scheduled, leaving movie-goers confused and disappointed.
Reports of Bhediya's release on JioCinema on April 21 began circulating online, causing excitement among fans who were keen to watch the movie from the comfort of their own homes. However, the expected release date came and went, and the movie was nowhere to be found on the streaming platform.
The lack of communication from JioCinema regarding the movie's delay left fans scrambling to find out why the release didn't happen. The disappointment among fans has been palpable, with many taking to social media to express their frustration
"When is #Bhediya coming on ott? I'm sitting with my popcorn since last night @JioCinema (sic)," said a Twitter user.
"I know that’s no comparison but @JioCinema I couldn’t find #Bhediya as expected to be available on your platform 21st April onwards.. so I switched back to the forever best Marvals.. #ThorRagnarok :) Either articles were wrong or there is some problem on your end ?," tweeted another.
"@JioCinema when are you planning to release the movie yaar, already been a very long wait, and still no release on the said date - 21st April," rued another Twitter user.
The movie was first released in theaters in November 2022 but failed to cross the coveted Rs 100 crore mark at the box office. However, looking at the anticipation that was generated by the reports about the movie's digital release, it's clear that it's one of the most-awaited movies in the OTT space.
The standard practice for new movies is to be released on streaming platforms within eight weeks after their initial theatrical release. With Bhediya's theatrical release being almost five months ago, fans expected to watch the movie online by now.
Despite the confusion and disappointment, fans will have to wait until JioCinema decides to release Bhediya on its platform. It remains to be seen when this will happen.
Bhediya is helmed by Amar Kaushik from a script written by Niren Bhatt. It's a horror-comedy and it follows the adventures of an Average joe who becomes a werewolf after being bitten by a wolf. The movie also stars Kriti Sanon, Deepak Dobriyal, and Abhishek Banerjee among others.
