Puja Entertainment, co-founded by Vashu and Jackky Bhagnani, is finally seeing some bright spots after a challenging 2024. Mere Husband Ki Biwi, their romantic comedy that came out last week, was well-received by audiences. It has just come to light that they have ended their spat with streaming behemoth Netflix.

Settlement between Puja Entertainment and Netflix

A source told Bollywood Hungama that both parties agreed on a settlement. To put an end to the dispute, Netflix paid the Bhagnanis a hefty sum. The top brass are the only ones who know the precise amount, although it's said to be more than Rs. 20 crore.

With the hope of a long and fruitful partnership, the insider continued that both Netflix and Vashu Bhagnani-Jackky Bhagnani have now decided to make a fresh start.

Origin of the legal dispute

Vashu and Jackky Bhagnani took Netflix to court in September 2024, claiming that the streaming service had deceived them and had failed to pay them almost Rs. 47.37 crore in dues. They took their grievances with the unpaid OTT rights for their films—Mission Raniganj and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan—to the Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW).

At the time, Senior Inspector Ravindra Avhad informed HT City that Netflix owes the complainant, Vashu Bhagnani, this amount of Rs. 47.37 crore. However, Netflix is refusing to cooperate. They still haven't shown up despite their two summonses and responded to their letter. They took notes during the Bhagnanis' statements and gathered all of the necessary paperwork when they visited them in April. Netflix made repeated requests but never delivered. Instead of Monika Shergill, Content Head of Netflix India, they send lower-level personnel to make statements.

Netflix’s response to the allegations

Netflix had previously refuted the claims. They stated that these claims are totally baseless—in fact, Puja Entertainment owes money to Netflix. In an effort to end this conflict, they are collaborating with the relevant authorities and drawing on their long history of successful partnerships with the Indian creative community.

Vashu and Jackky Bhagnani are free to go on to the next phase of their partnership's development now that their legal dispute is behind them. Puja Entertainment is looking forward to a bright future thanks to its renewed cooperation with Netflix. This decision allows the production house to prioritise producing outstanding entertainment for viewers globally as it gets ready for its forthcoming projects.
