Besuri is the perfect example of what happens when love becomes possession.

Genelia D’Souza’s version of love, Besuri, is heartbreaking, and that’s also putting it mildly. The song, which is the latest release from Riteish Deshmukh’s Ved, defines the fine line between love and possession. It is full of pain—the pain of watching a woman struggle in love, the pain of seeing something innocent turn dangerous, and her pain of constant rejection.
In this video, Genelia’s character is in love with a younger Ved. She and Ved (played by Riteish Deshmukh) studied in the same school.
Ved is passionate about cricket (screams Majili), and Genelia’s character is his biggest cheerleader ever. She roots for him even before others grasp what just happened.
Her character has been shown to suffer since childhood. She has long desired his attention, but he refuses to acknowledge her. Thus, her love turns into something dangerous: possession. She is extremely possessive about Ved because, after all, he is the ‘sur’ to her ‘besuri’ self.
Genelia is clearly smitten by Ved, from scolding another boy for trying to enter a bus after Ved to beaming from ear to ear after being splashed with pen ink.
He, on the other hand, has friend-zoned her. She is the only female friend in his group of friends, but he is quite oblivious to how she feels despite all her hints. Her addiction towards him goes to the extent that she indirectly touches his feet and prays while pretending to drop something.
Of course, all of this is followed by the iconic Majili scene, which was also a major part of the trailer. She holds out an umbrella for him while he is busy lighting a cigarette and worrying about his own life problems rather than appreciating her gesture. Forget appreciation, he walks away from the scene, ignoring her just like he did in their growing-up years.
Ved marks Riteish’s debut in direction. The movie also stars Jiya Shankar as one of the leads. It also has a guest appearance by Salman Khan.
