The man behind the music of films like Ugramm, Mufti, KGF, Salaar and many more, Ravi Basrur is also an occasional filmmaker, having made movies like Gargar Mandala, Bilinder, Kataka, Girmit and Kadal. His latest, Veera Chandrahasa, was a passion project, he’d said – one that he hoped would put the spotlight firmly on an ancient art form – Yakshagana.
Veera Chandrahasa, which released in theatres on April 18, 2025, opened to mixed reviews, with some appreciating the departure from routine commercial masala movies, but others not too impressed by the attempt to turn a Yakshagana performance into a cinematic experience. That Basrur’s music swayed between good and bad also did not bode well for the film, which, according to reports, was well received only in the coastal belt of the state, where Yakshagana is more popular.

As the title suggests, Veera Chandrahasa is the tale of an orphan, who goes on to become the valiant and virtuous King Veera Chandrahasa. Veera Chandrahasa hits OTT in a very busy week on streaming platforms. Films like Agnyathavasi, HIT 3, Retro, Thudarum, and Vidyapati have also made their way to OTT this week.
