Director Gopichand Malineni, who last delivered a hit for Ravi Teja with the action entertainer Krack, teamed up with veteran star Nandamuri Balakrishna for the masala potboiler Veera Simha Reddy. The faction drama hit screens across the globe on January 12 and opened to mixed reviews but is registering impressive collections at the box office in its initial weekend. Shruti Haasan is the female lead of the actioner bankrolled by Y Ravi Shankar, Naveen Yerneni under Mythri Movie Makers.
Leading OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar has acquired the digital streaming rights of Veera Simha Reddy. The streamer is expected to premiere the film in the latter half of February or in the early half of March. Apart from marking the Telugu debut of Kannada star Duniya Vijay, the film featured Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Honey Rose, Naveen Chandra, Easwari Rao, Malayalam actor Lal, Murali Sharma and others in key roles as well.
The story revolves around Jai (Balakrishna), an automobile store owner in Istanbul, who’s a pillar of strength in his mother Meenakshi’s (Honey Rose) life. He meets a wannabe singer Isha (Shruti Haasan) at a pub and despite initial friction, love blossoms between the two. Just as Jai and Isha get ready to tie the knot, Meenakshi informs him about her past and the legacy of his father Veera Simha Reddy (Balakrishna), something she’s hidden from him all along. Why does Jai return to India?
Rishi Punjabi had cranked the camera for the film which was edited by Navin Nooli. AS Prakash was the production designer and Sai Madhav Burra had written the dialogues. S Thaman’s songs ensured a good pre-release hype for the sibling drama. Numbers like Suguna Sundari, Maa Bava Manobhavalu, Jai Balayya gained popularity among music buffs. Disney+ Hotstar had also acquired the streaming rights of Balakrishna’s earlier blockbuster release Akhanda, directed by Boyapati Srinu.
