Prajwal Devaraj’s Veeram was announced way before the pandemic, but then filming was delayed multiple times, owing to lockdowns. So much so that producer Shashidhar KM was often asked if the film was still on the cards or not. To answer all those queries, the filmmaker had earlier announced its release date – Veeram will be in theatres on April 7, in the run-up to which the team today launched its trailer.

The Khadar Kumar directorial, it appears, is an out-and-out action entertainer, in which Prajwal plays a hardcore Vishnuvardhan fan. The actor sports a rugged look in the film, in which he is paired with Rachita Ram. Srinagara Kitty has a pivotal role in the film, while Deepak of Sisya fame is the main antagonist. Veeram marks the directorial debut of Khadar.

Speaking at the trailer launch, Prajwal said that it gives him immense pride to have played a Vishnuvardhan fan onscreen in a film in which there are dialogues indicating that the tattoo of the Sahasasimha on his arm is more powerful than the machete he wields.

Reacting to the trailer, a netizen wrote that it was unfortunate that Prajwal was not trying to be a part of out-of-the-box content. He tweeted, “Prajwal's not even trying to be open box to world cinema. Approaching new gen directors. Doing the same thing again n again.” Another chimed in, “Prajwal does three films in a year and they are all of the same old pattern.”

Prajwal, who was last seen in Abbara, is hopeful of a better turnaround at the box office with Veeram. The actor has a lineup of films including Mafia and an as-yet-untitled film with Lohith H, Gaana opposite Vedhika, a project with Dilpasand producer Sumanth Kranthi, and filmmaker Mahesh Handral’s debut directorial.
