This year Manju Warrier seems bent on flaunting her comic timing. After Lalitham Sundaram gifted the audience several comedy sequences involving sibling rivalry, the star’s upcoming comedy entertainer Vellari Pattanam promises more of the same.
The makers, who had recently announced a change in the film’s title from Vellarikkapattanam to Vellari Pattanam, released its teaser online on Monday. It starts off with Manju struggling with Hindi, as Soubin Shahir’s character returns home and immediately rebukes her for sitting idle and learning Hindi, while the rest of the people are out there working hard. The duo also have a humorous exchange as Soubin says he has a thing or two to say to a certain Choudhary, before asking his father for dinner.
The film, directed by Mahesh Vettiyaar, is scripted by journalist Sarathkrishna and the filmmaker himself. Vellari Pattanam was shot in and around Alappuzha and the shoot of the movie had concluded last year.
In an interview with Kochi Times, Mahesh had said that the film is a family entertainer wrapped up in humour. “It’s also a social satire with a rooted story,” said the debutant, who had earlier worked in advertisements.
Meanwhile, Manju and Soubin will also be seen together in Santosh Sivan’s Jack N’ Jill, which is set to hit theatres on May 20. The movie, which is touted to be a sci-fi, comedy entertainer set against a rural backdrop, has Soubin playing a virtual assistant while Manju’s character is subject to an experiment.
The actress is also part of G Prajesh Sen’s Meri Awas Suno, which is set to hit theatres on May 13. The movie, which also has Jayasurya and Sshivada, has her playing a social worker. Meanwhile, Soubin is currently busy with the pre-production work of his second directorial titled Othiram Kadakkam, which has Dulquer Salmaan in the lead. The movie is set to go on floors soon.
