With Gautham Menon's Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu (VTK), Silambarasan has enjoyed success once more, following the success of Venkat Prabhu's Maanaadu. Even while sources claim that VTK is edging closer to the Rs 100 crore mark, we've heard that the collections have been dropping with time. We believe that the film will pick up momentum since there are no significant releases in Tamil this week.
So far, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu has made over Rs 31 crore in Tamil Nadu. Ponniyin Selvan-1 and Dhanush's Naane Varuven will be released next week. The box office run of the Silambarasan-Gautham Menon film will come to an end at that time, possibly with less than Rs 40 crores in the state. This isn't a bad number, but after Maanaadu and the way the VTK started, there were, indeed, higher hopes.
In other news, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu will be available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, once the film completes its theatrical run.
In a press meet that was held in Mumbai, Gautham Menon spoke about the success of his recently-released film. “My best work to date is Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu because I sort of unlearned what I had learned. In contrast to movies like Baahubali and RRR, which have achieved tremendous success, I'm referring to VTK, where each shot has its narrative, and I believe that is essential.”
Speaking about his friendship with Silambarasan, Gautham Menon said, “We are highly respectful of one another's personal space, and this greatly nurtured both our working relationship and friendship. However, he is only a phone call away. In fact, Karthik Dial Seidha Yenn happened during the Covid-induced lockdown. I have a simple relationship with Simbu, and I never hesitate to get in touch with him.”
After Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, Gautham Menon found himself back in the spotlight as rumours of a Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyadu sequel started to circulate. In an interview with Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan, the filmmaker spoke about the same.
“The script of Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu 2 is being written. Before the lockdown, Kamal sir and I met and talked about it for around 45 minutes. He requested that I write the script. I have a story to tell and I would like to finish the shooting by the end of 2023.”
Apart from Silambarasan, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu also stars Raadika Sarathkumar, Siddhi Idnani, Neeraj Madhav and Siddique, among others in pivotal roles.
Produced by Vels Film International, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is co-written by Jeyamohan.
