Ever since Rana Daggubati made his mark as an actor, film buffs were extremely curious about the possibility of seeing him alongside his uncle and popular star Venkatesh in a Telugu film. In a strange turn of events, they’re not coming together for a Telugu project but for a Hindi Netflix show Rana Naidu, playing an on-screen father and a son. The show is set to release on the streamer in March.

While the filming of Rana Naidu, the Indian adaptation of the hit American show Ray Donovan , was wrapped up by mid 2022, Netflix has taken its own sweet time to announce the release date. Rana Naidu’s trailer is all set to be launched today in Mumbai with the entire cast and crew in attendance. Ahead of the same, Netflix came up with two unique promotional videos featuring Venkatesh and Rana.

The show revolves around a father and a son who aren’t on talking terms. In the first promotional video, Venkatesh sends across a warning to Netflix to change the title of the show to his name Naga Naidu. “Who’s the hero? Me. Who’s the star? Me. Who has more fans? Me. Who looks better? Me. Shouldn’t the show be named after me too? Don’t mess around with the ‘baap’,” he says.

The video's one-liner ‘Mazaaq Mazaaq mein Abdul Razzaq ho jaata’ caught the fascination of streaming enthusiasts. Rana, giving a fitting response to Naga Naidu, said, “I saw your video - you’re just overacting, just like you did in the show. Don’t worry, the show will have the name of the bigger star. You’ll see at the trailer launch,” while cleaning a cricket bat filled with blood stains. Venkatesh ultimately gives it back to Rana and tells him to be ready for a clash post the trailer launch.

The strategy is simple and effective - the videos offer a glimpse of the show’s theme, their characters, while setting up the tone perfectly for the trailer launch today. Surveen Chawla, Sushant Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Suchitra Pillai, Gaurav Chopra, Ashish Vidyarthi and Rajesh Jais essay crucial roles as well in the show directed by Karan Anshuman and Suparn Verma.
