Veteran film producer Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala passed away on Monday at the age of 91. The cause of death was attributed to be due to cardiac arrest and the producer breathed his last at Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai.
According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, the deceased’s son Firoz Nadiadwala informed the media that the former passed away at 1:40 AM on Monday. According to TOI, the veteran producer was reportedly being treated for multiple health conditions including diabetes and asthma. Nadiadwala’s funeral will take place today at 4:00 PM at his residence in Barkat, at JVPD Scheme.
Nadiadwala started his career in 1984, serving as a producer on the Esmayeel Shroff directorial, Jhutha Sach, which starred Dharmendra and Rekha in lead roles. The producer then went on to bankroll several other popular films such as Mahabharat (1965), Sone Pe Suhaaga(1988),Hera Pheri(2000), Welcome (2007) and Awara Paagal Deewana (2002).
Nadiadwala’s father A K Nadiadwala was a producer as well. The former’s children, Firoz and Mehnaaz are also producers, and the duo are cousins to Sajid Nadiadwala. Sajid is the founder of the production banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.
Mehnaaz shared the news of her father’s passing on social media. Sharing a photograph of her and her father on Twitter, she wrote “My father Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala passed away peacefully today August 22 nd. He made a warrior and told me it’s important to be resilient and strong in adverse moments. A irreplaceable loss. I will meet you soon. Rest in peace”.
Ajay Devgn also took to social media to express his grief at the producer’s demise. The actor wrote “Deepest condolences on the passing of Shri Gaffarbhai Nadiadwala. My father & he were associates during the golden era of our cinema. 🕉 Shanti AG Nadiadwala saab. My condolences to the Nadiadwala family”.
