The trailer of the first instalment of Vetri Maaran's Viduthalai is breaking the internet and how. The trailer, which dropped on March 8, has already surpassed 15 million views and is still counting. Going by the trailer, Soori, the protagonist, gets recruited for Operation Ghosthunt, which is a mission to capture Vaathiyar, leader of a 'separatist' group that fights against the police for exploiting and committing atrocities on people of marginalised communities. While the trailer is receiving accolades, Soori's performance in the film is already receiving a lot of appreciation, especially a scene where he falls on a roof with his neck down.
In the meantime, the first single from the film, Kattumalli, sung by Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja himself along with Ananya Bhat has turned out to be chartbuster. Interestingly, when Vetri Maaran approached the ace composer for the song, he was so impressed that he decided to pen the lyrics for the song and also sing it.
Speaking about the film at the audio and trailer launch, Vetri Maaran said, "It's not an easy film for actors to do. The film has been under production for over two years. People have not gone home for many days and the cast and crew have struggled a lot for the film. The film is my vision but the reason it was made possible because of the commitment of everyone associated with the film. For instance, the stunt choreographer Peter Hein has made the climax scene of the first part very special. Soori ended up having a ligament tear and a fracture on his left hand. It's a long sequence."
Viduthalai is an adaptation of novelist B Jeyamohan's short story Thunaivan. While Soori plays the lead, Vijay Sethupathi will be seen in a pivotal role, thus marking his maiden collaboration with the ace director. Viduthalai also marks Vetri Maaran's maiden collaboration with Ilaiyaraaja.
