Following the success of his films Raanjhana, Tanu Weds Manu, and Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Aanand L Rai was eager to return to the genre of a straightforward love narrative set against some action. Earlier, Vicky Kaushal, who adored the script and had in principle agreed to be in the movie, was being negotiated with by the director.

Now, a source informed Bollywood Hungama that the script was locked, and the paperwork needed to be completed. However, Vicky's calendar was not in sync with Rai's when he began planning the film's shoot dates. The actor wanted to begin filming as soon as possible, but the filmmaker needed time for pre-production so that the movie could be released by summer.

Vicky and Rai have made the decision to separate after a number of discussions, combinations, and permutations. The source added that the actor hoped to begin production on his ambitious Ashwathama with Aditya Dhar this summer. He opted not to be a part of Rai's directorial because he doesn't want to interfere with the production of his big movie.

When Rai goes back to the casting stage, he wants to find a younger actor.

Vicky, on the other hand, is getting ready for the release of his next movie, Govinda Naam Mera, in which he plays the title character. The film, directed by Shashank Khaitan, also stars Bhumi Pednekar and Kiara Advani in the lead roles. Govinda Naam Mera is a comedy thriller and is set for a direct-to-OTT release on Disney+ Hotstar. The film will premiere on December 16, 2022.

On the other hand, Rai's last directorial was Raksha Bandhan, featuring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles. After its theatrical run, the film is currently streaming on OTTPlay Premium and ZEE5. The film clashed with Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha on the big screen.
