Shoojit Sircar directorial Gulabo Sitabo was among the first Bollywood movies to skip the theatrical release during the coronavirus lockdown and directly streamed on Amazon Prime Video. Now, his upcoming film Sardar Udham Singh has also opted for an OTT release, as per the latest reports. The film featuring Vicky Kaushal in the titular role of the revolutionary freedom fighter who assassinated Michael O'Dwyer in London to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

Talking about the same, a source told Pinkvilla, "Sardar Udham Singh will premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video during the Dussehra weekend. The tentative release date at the moment is October 16."

The source added that the team is supremely excited to present their film to the audience. Although Sardar Udham Singh was meant for theatrical viewing, due to the pandemic it is getting an OTT premiere.

The source went on to say, "The exhibition section too is far off from revival and given the kind of money involved in the film, the makers thought, it’s best to arrive in the digital world."

Vicky wrapped the shoot of the film in December 2019 and was awaiting the release in 2020. However, with this film, the actor will be returning to the world of OTT after Love per Square Foot and Karan Johar's segment in Lust Stories; both streaming on Netflix.

Meanwhile, Vicky has several films in his kitty including Sam Bahadur where the actor plays the leading role of Sam Manekshaw. The film is directed by Meghna Gulzar. He also has Mr Lele alongside Kiara Advani and the film is helmed by Shashank Khaitan.

Vicky was all set to reunite with Aditya Dhar for The Immortal Ashwatthama after Uri: The Surgical Strike. But the film has been reportedly shelved.
