Vicky Kaushal and Aditya Dhar both rose to prominence with the release of Uri: The Surgical Strike. The movie showcased the versatility of Vicky and proved that he is very capable of carrying a big film on his shoulders. Aditya, who directed Vicky, recently opened up about his decision to cast him and his firm belief in the concept of anti-casting. Anti-casting is a concept where you cast somebody by going against the trend.

Aditya Dhar Reveals...

While speaking about this concept, the director, in a conversation with India Today, shared that the industry believes in typecasting individuals, giving similar roles to actors who deliver a hit by playing a certain kind of character. He added that for many people, a movie is more of a project than a film. He said, "I have a big star and a lot of money; forget the script; let me make the film; I will make money on the table. The thought process is such.”

Aditya, while talking about his and his team's process, shared that they have a very different mindset and mentioned that their dedication to their craft is of the utmost importance to them. He said, "Where we come from, the background, and the dedication we have towards our craft are of the utmost importance. This is our bread and butter, and we cannot be somebody who does injustice to it or cheats at it. I feel that, like the case of somebody like Vicky (Kaushal) in 'Uri,' everybody told us we were making a huge mistake."

While talking about how people told them they were making a mistake by casting Vicky, he said, "Everybody went up to Ronnie (Screwvala) at that point and said, 'You are making a huge mistake, making a war film with a lanky boy who has never done a solo hero commercial film, and you are mounting such an important film on his shoulder.' So our belief at the end of the day was that we are all working towards something extraordinary, and we worked ten times harder than anyone in this industry because we wanted to prove to them that it is not where you are coming from that matters; what matters more is where you are going."
