Vidudhala Part 1 trailer: Vetri Maaran, Soori’s critically acclaimed cop drama tests waters in Telugu

Revered, award-winning Tamil director Vetri Maaran is well known among Telugu audiences for his films like Aadukalam, Visaaranai and Asuran, but surprisingly none of his popular films have enjoyed a (widespread) release in Telugu states. Vidhuthalai Part 1, his cop-drama with Soori, Vijay Sethupathi aims to set that record straight.

The Telugu version of the film, Vidhudhala Part 1, which has music by Ilaiyaraaja is distributed by Allu Aravind’s Geetha Arts. The film’s trailer was unveiled today. The story unfolds through the eyes of an underdog cop, who’s treated shabbily by his superiors and make him do odd jobs at work. Meanwhile, the police force’s immediate target is nab Perumal, the leader of a separatist group People’s Army.

The nearly three-minute-long trailer focuses the cat-and-mouse chase between the cops and a group that’s hogging the limelight for its violent activities - the operation is titled Ghosthunt. The cops even attack innocent women and adopt a crude approach to their investigation. The action sequences are realistic and the drama is gripping. The emphatic background score makes an impact as well.

The trailer ends with an interesting verbal banter between the separatist group leader Perumal and a cop, where the former questions the society that differentiates humans on various levels and in turn labels their activity as ‘separatism’. Bhavani Sri, Chetan, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, Ilavarasu, Munnar Ramesh and Saravana Subbiah essay important roles too.

Produced by Elred Kumar under RS Infotainment, Vidudhala Part 1 is written by noted Tamil author Jeyamohan. R Velraj cranks the camera for the film which is edited by R Ramar. Jacki is the art director and Peter Hein, Stun Siva choreograph the stunts. The Tamil original released in theatres on March 31 while the Telugu version will lock horns with Shaakunalam next weekend.
