Vetrimaaran, a strong voice in Tamil cinema, last released the second part of his duology Viduthalai: Part 2. With the film completing nearly a month of theatrical run, it will soon be available on ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium from January 17.
For those who have not watched the sequel in theatres, and are waiting for the OTT version to release, we at OTTplay have got you covered. We also get that with Viduthalai: Part 1 having released a while before, and hence will be giving you a quick recap of how it ended, so that you can stream Viduthalai: Part 2.
Vetrimaaran’s duology Viduthalai is all about people versus those in power. With this line as basic, the filmmaker crafts a world where a newly recruited constable, Kumaresan (Soori) joins the police force as a driver, who aces in riding the vehicle on the mountainous terrains. He begins to understand that the relationship the police share with people is just more than complicated. At the same time, the police too are on the lookout for the leader of Makkal Padai, Perumal Vaathiyar (Vijay Sethupathi).
After a train accident grabs the full attention of police on Makkal Padai, it only becomes difficult for men in khaki to dig deep into the grassroots of people's network, who are the sympathizers of Makkal Padai. It is also at this time, that Kumaresan falls in love with Pappa (Bhavani Sre) who is one of the locals. It is not until Paapa begins to tell Kumaresan about the police brutality unleashed on the locals, and how her father too was a victim of it, Kumaresan is torn between his uniform and human emotions.
Kumaresan witnesses the peak of brutality when his police force arrests the village folks, especially the women to brutally assault them. This pushes him to reveal Perumal Murugan's hideout to the police, and his chief Sunil Menon. As Kumaresan finally catches hold of Perumal Murugan, Viduthalai: Part 1 ends with Kumaresan pinning hopes on the future, given he played a crucial role in capturing the Makkal Padai leader. Will Kumaresan be able to finally break away from the clutches of his uniform? What happens to Perumal Murugan after his capture, and how he becomes a Makkal Padai leader forms the crux of the second part.
While the first part is available for streaming on ZEE5, the second part will begin streaming on January 17. The Viduthalai duology is also available on the OTTplay Premium app.
Directed by Vetrimaaran, the film features Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, Rajiv Menon, Gautham Menon, Chethan, Manju Warrier, Kishore, and others. Ilaiyaraaja has scored the music for the films.
