Viduthalai-Part 2 2024: Release date, trailer, cast, crew, plot, censor, runtime, OTT rights - all you need to know

Viduthalai Part 2 is an upcoming Tamil film starring Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, and others. Helmed by Vetrimaaran, the film is a period-action drama and is all set to hit theatres very soon. Before you go to theatres to catch the film, here is everything you need to know:

Release date

Viduthalai—Part 2 is set to release in theatres on December 20. It is the sequel to Vetrimaaran’s 2023 film Viduthalai, which also starred Soori in the lead role. Viduthalai—Part 2 is the only prominent Tamil film to release this weekend, so it is expected to start well.

Trailer

The trailer of Viduthalai—Part 2 was released a few weeks back. It takes us back to the earlier days of Vijay Sethupathi's character Vaathiyar, who staunchly opposes the systemic framework of oppression through caste. The second part is expected to show his character's origins, his love story with Manju Warrier's character, and how his revolt for the people began.

Cast

With the cast from the first part, including actors Soori, Rajiv Menon, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Bhavani Sre, and others reprising their roles, the sequel will also feature Vijay Sethupathi, Manju Warrier, Kishore, Bose Venkat, Vincent Ashokan, Anurag Kashyap, Ilavarasu, Balaji, Ken Karunas, and others in prominent roles.

Crew

Vetrimaaran is once again helming the film, with Ilaiyaaraja scoring the music. Elred Kumar is backing Viduthalai. The technical crew consists of Velraj cranking the camera, and R Ramar as the editor. Jacki is the art director of the film. The basic idea of Viduthalai is from Vengaichami written by Thangam with the film based on a short story penned by Jeyamohan.

Plot

Viduthalai is about the people’s movement against police brutality and the systematic framework of oppression. The first part follows a rookie cop who is asked to capture a leader of the movement. The sequel is said to explore the back story of the leader played by Vijay Sethupathi, and what has led him to take the fight against the system.

Censor and Runtime

As per reports, the sequel has bagged an A certificate from the censor board. Viduthalai- Part 2 has a runtime of 2 hours and 52 minutes, making it one of the longest films with a runtime of almost three hours.

OTT rights

The OTT rights of the sequel are with ZEE5. The first part is also available on the same platform and can be streamed on the OTTplay Premium app as well.
