Vidyapati on OTT: Daali Dhananjaya’s production for Nagabhushana gets a second streaming home

Actor-producer Daali Dhananjaya’s fourth production and second with his buddy Nagabhushana in the lead, Vidyapati, was one of three Kannada films in theatres in the second week of April. There was By 2 Love and Kaiva fame Dhanveerrah’s action flick Vamana and Gultoo maker Janardhan Chikkanna’s Agnyathavasi along with Vidyapati, taking on the might of films like Good Bad Ugly, Maranamass , Alappuzha Gymkhana, etc. A comedy drama directed by Esham and Haseen, who’d earlier made Ikkat with Nagabhushana, Vidyapati released with decent reviews, but didn’t create waves at the box office.

Subsequently, Vidyapati made it to OTT and dropped on Amazon Prime Video within the 30-day mark and now, a little under a month later, it has found its way to another platform as well. Vidyapati will begin streaming on Sun NXT starting May 28, 2025. The Rishab Shetty production Laughing Buddha had a similar journey, heading to Prime Video first and then to Sun NXT.

In the film, Nagabhushana played Siddu, the husband of star heroine, Vidya (Malaika Vasupal), which he managed to be by crook. As her money-hungry and extravagant manager, Siddu lives a life of luxury and distances himself from his lower middle-class family, until a turn of events forces him to return to his roots and undertake a journey of self-discovery.

KGF fame Garuda Ram played Jaggu, a thug that Siddu has to deal with, which he does with a little help from Anaconda (Dhananjaya), a vagabond with great fighting skills. The film also stars Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare fame Srivatsa Shyam, Girish Jatti, Bindu Raxidi, Dharmanna Kadur, Pratiksha Bharadwaj, Rangayana Raghu, among others.

Dhananjaya’s next production venture is a film called JC The University, starring Prakhyath and Bhavana Reddy. The actor’s acting slate includes films like Anna From Mexico, Jingo, Uttarakaanda and a yet-to-be announced collaboration with Hemanth M Rao.
