Vijay Deverakonda, who once claimed he would never do love stories again, took back his words when he committed to the romance drama Kushi, written and directed by Majili, Ninnu Kori filmmaker Shiva Nirvana. He had okayed the script right during Dear Comrade but the project kept getting pushed due to their previous work commitments.

Kushi, after facing multiple delays during shoot, is gearing up for a release across five languages this Friday. While the music has been the primary promotional tool for the film, the makers have opted for a restrictive publicity strategy, focusing more towards netizens in the recent days. In a Youtube chat addressing national audience, Vijay spoke how he broke the ice with director Shiva Nirvana.

There was a 20-30 day span we took to understand each other to break the ice, Vijay admits. “I am someone who reacts instinctively, bluntly when something isn’t working out, like ‘Idem Shiva..sodhi..’ Shiva froze when I spoke like that. Samantha later advised the star that he had to be more formal in his approach with Shiva. “I presumed a director would understand my response,” he said.

“After that connection within one month, he just needs to see me once to understand if I liked the shot, if I didn’t like it or if I have any doubts.” Just by looking at the monitor, Shiva reportedly understands the doubts Vijay has with a shot. More than anything, the absence of any load makes Vijay feel at ease with him. “I trust him to an extent that I know he’ll take care of things.”

Generally, Vijay takes care of the frames, lyrical videos as well but didn’t do anything on those lines for Kushi. “Over a call, I and he communicate without many words.” Vijay mentioned he was scared till the launch of the first lyrical video. With Na Roja Nuvve, the star told Shiva Nirvana ‘he killed it’ and it garnered over 98 million views online. “I never really express my inner feelings and don’t react to applause either. So, Shiva has done away with all formalities.”
