Visithran is the remake of the critically-acclaimed Malayalam film Joseph, which had Joju George playing the lead. Joju's performance was so well received in the film that he went on to win the Kerala State Award and received a special mention at the National Awards. The Malayalam version was directed by M Padmakumar, who is also helming the Tamil version.
The star cast for Visithran includes Poorna, Madhu Shalini, Bhagavathi Perumal, Ilavarasu, George Maryan, G Marimuthu and Ani Murali. Music for the film is by GV Prakash, cinematography by Vetrivel Mahendran and editing is by Sathish Surya.
The film was initially scheduled to release on May 2, but the makers decided to advance the date recently and will now hit screens on May 6. Visithran is a crime thriller that talks about a police investigation and an important issue plaguing the society. The teaser for the film was released by Suriya and the makers have retained the prime plot with subtle changes to suit the Tamil audiences.
Joseph is now being remade in Telugu as Sekhar (starring Rajasekhar), in Kannada as Ravi Bopanna (starring Ravichandran) and in Hindi with Sunny Deol.
