Vetri Maaran's Viduthalai is one of the most-anticipated releases of this year. The film, which is an adaptation of the short story Thunaivan penned by novelist Jeyamohan, has Soori playing a police constable and Vijay Sethupathi essaying the role of a school teacher. Vijay Sethupathi's character is said to be Vaathiyar to Soori's character.
In the meantime, Vijay Sethupathi shared two new pictures from the village set of the film. He captioned it, "#Viduthalai village set. @sooriofficial @VetriMaaran @ilaiyaraaja @elredkumar @jacki_art @rsinfotainment @mani_rsinfo @VelrajR @DoneChannel1 @CtcMediaboy (sic). In the pictures, the team is seen having a discussion with each other.
It is said that majority of the portions from the film have already been canned and the final schedule, too, will be wrapped up soon in Sirumalai, which primarily comprises an action sequence. The star cast also includes Gautham Menon, Prakash Raj and Bhavani Sre of Paava Kadhaigal fame.
Viduthalai has music by Ilaiyaraaja. This marks Vetri Maaran's maiden collaboration with the Isaignani. The filmmaker's frequent collaborator Velraj is handling the cinematography. Editing is by R Ramar and action choreography is by Peter Hein.
Viduthalai is bankrolled by Elred Kumar of RS Infotainment which has backed films like Ko and Yaamirukka Bayamey. Interestingly, there is a 1986 film starring Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan and Superstar Rajinikanth also titled Viduthalai.
Though the plot of the film is kept under wraps, the film is said to be an edge-of-the-seat thriller. Soori called working with Vetri Maaran, a dream come true. This is also the first collaboration between Vijay Sethupathi and Vetri Maaran. The makers are planning to release Viduthalai in multiple languages.
After completing work on this project, Vetri Maaran will begin shoot for his next project with Suriya, titled Vaadivasal. Written by CS Chellappa, it is a story about a bull and the one who captures it. The film will unfold against the backdrop of Jallikattu, the ancient bull-taming sport. The test shoot for the film was conducted long ago.
