The release of filmmaker Seenu Ramasamy's long-awaited Maamanithan has once again been postponed! Initially, the makers had announced May 20 as the release date; now it has been pushed to June 24.

Starring Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathrie Shankar in lead roles, Maamanithan also stars Guru Somasundaram, KPAC Lalitha, Manasvi (who played Nayanthara's daughter in Imaikaa Nodigal) and Ganja Karuppu in supporting roles.

RK Suresh, whose Studio 9 is releasing Maamanithan, took to Twitter to announce the decision. The producer-actor had said the decision was taken, keeping in mind the continuous releases of Vijay Sethupathi.

"Maamanithan deserved to hold at least 400 theatres, all over Tamil Nadu. Our sincere apologies to all theatre owners and distributors," Suresh added.

A few days ago, the team had released the second trailer of Maamanithan, which did not state the date of release. There was just a mention, saying "coming soon", and this made everyone speculate if the film was getting postponed.

In January, Rajinikanth had watched Maamanithan and congratulated the team. Director Seenu Ramasamy wrote on Twitter, "I didn't want to disclose this news then because some would have called it a publicity stunt to sell my film. Now, since the release date has been locked, I can share this and how Rajini sir watching the film itself was a blessing for us."

Maamanithan is Seenu Ramaswamy's fourth film, with Vijay Sethupathi after Thenmerku Paruvakaatru, Dharmadurai, and Idam Porul Eval.

Maamanithan went on floors in Theni in 2018, and this one too will be a village-based story like Seenu Ramasamy's earlier outings.

Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathrie had worked together on Puriyadha Pudhir, Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, Seethakaathi, Rummy, Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren, and more.

The film has music by both Ilaiyaraaja and Yuvan Shankar Raja. This is the first time that the father-son duo is collaborating on the album of a film.
