Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi's upcoming movie Maharaja is one of the most anticipated films among his fans. The film marks his return to playing a serious and full-fledged role after a long gap, making it a significant milestone in his career as it's his 50th film.
According to industry sources, Maharaja will hit cinemas soon after the Lok Sabha elections conclude in Tamil Nadu. It's rumoured that the filmmakers have set a release date for May 16, but an official confirmation is awaited.
Maharaja most awaited among Vijay Sethupathi fans
Nithilan Saminathan, known for Kurangu Bommai, has written and directed Maharaja. The first look poster of the movie promises a hard-hitting action drama, showcasing Vijay Sethupathi in a never-before-seen avatar.
The image, featuring a bruised and battered Vijay Sethupathi sitting in a state of deep contemplation inside a salon, has sparked curiosity. It's likely that the film will address important political and social issues facing the country today.
Maharaja has also garnered attention for its stellar supporting cast, including Bollywood actor-director Anurag Kashyap in a key role, alongside Malayalam star Mamta Mohandas.
Maharaja marks Anurag Kashyap's third film as an actor in Tamil cinema. Previously, he played a major role in Imaikaa Nodigal (2018) and made a cameo appearance in director Lokesh Kanagaraj's blockbuster Leo.
