Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan release also delayed after LIK? Producer clarifies | Exclusive

It has been a period of lull for Tamil cinema in December, given some notable releases like Vaa Vaathiyaar and Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) have been postponed, left to guessing game on when these films will hit theatres. Both Vaa Vaathiyaar and LIK where long-standing films which were to hit theatres this year, but with last-minute delays have come out as disappointment for fans. With speculations rising that Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan might also get delayed. But is that true? OTTplay brings you with a confirmed answer.

Jana Nayagan postponed? Here is what we know:

Jana Nayagan, the much-awaited Tamil film, has much expectations riding on it, given it is actor Vijay’s farewell film in his acting career. The film is directed by H Vinoth, and is slated for a theatrical release on January 9, 2026.

However, there have been speculations on social media that Jana Nayagan is getting postponed. This news comes at the time when Tamil films like LIK and Vaa Vaathiyaar which were scheduled to release in December stand delayed. However, speaking to OTTplay, Suprith, the business head of KVN Productions (which is bankrolling Jana Nayagan), confirmed that Jana Nayagan is not getting delayed. “It is on track for January 9threlease,” he said. Further, the makers have also already announced that an audio launch will take place in Malaysia on December 27, with fans awaiting for Vijay’s speech.

What happened to LIK and Vaa Vaathiyaar release?

With respect to LIK, the film was first scheduled for Diwali and then postponed for December 18. However, the Pradeep Rangananthan-starrer will not be releasing this week, the reason being the last-minute post production works. Further, sources close to the makers also state that LIK’s OTT deal will only allow the film to release sometime in February, close to Valentine’s Day.

This was concurred by Tiruppur Subramanian, part of Tamil Nadu Theatres Association, that LIK is not getting released. “The makers have conveyed it to us that LIK will come in the second week of February. So far, we have not gotten any postponement announcement for Jana Nayagan and is on track for January 9 release. There is 99% chance of it not getting postponed, but you never know what happens in the last minute,” he said. Subramanian added that it has been a dull month for theatres in December. “In fact, the last six months or even this year, has been dull for big screens. It was a bad year.”

Meanwhile, Vaa Vaathiyaar which had been postponed due to last-minute financial issues, is yet to lock a release date. The Karthi-starrer has been in the making for a while, and deferred releases twice this month.
