Lokesh Kanagaraj-directed Leo, starring Vijay, raked in ₹30 crores in Kerala, making it the first Thalapathy movie to achieve this milestone

Since the release of Vijay-starrer Leo, the Lokesh Kanagaraj-directed film has been performing well in Kerala. In fact, the action thriller film has set a new record for highest opening-day collection. To celebrate the movie’s success in the state, the director was all set to visit Kochi for a press meet today at 4pm. He was also scheduled to make a theatre visit in the city, which was part of the ‘Kerala Success Meet’ for Leo’s theatrical success in the state. However, the event, organised by Kerala film distributor Gokulam Gopalan, has now been rescheduled.

Fans have been eagerly waiting to see Lokesh’s insights and reactions to the success of the Vijay-starrer in Kerala. But it has now been announced that the event is postponed. The reason to reschedule the meet has not been revealed. However, Vijay fanclubs have announced on social media handles that the meet has been rescheduled to tomorrow.
Vijay’s Leo set to make ₹450 crores at global box office
Meanwhile, Leo is dominating the global box office, where its inching toward the ₹450 crore mark. On Sunday (October 22), the movie was estimated to have grossed approximately ₹49 crores in India, despite receiving mixed reviews.
Meanwhile, Leo had already made an impressive mark by becoming the highest opening-day grosser in Kerala for the year 2023, showcasing the film’s popularity. Notably, the film raked in an impressive ₹30 crore in the state, making it the first Vijay movie to have achieved this feat.
Lokesh Kanagaraj’s response to Leo’s mixed reviews
The teaming up of Vijay and Lokesh after Beast, for the LCU franchise, generated a lot of excitement among fans. However, the film received criticism, especially for its screenplay of its second half. Despite that, Lokesh expressed his satisfaction with Leo’s reception and explained that he was awaiting further audience feedback, as he was away in an area with no network coverage. He plans to evaluate these comments carefully and take them into account for his future projects.
The movie also stars Sanjay Dutt, Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Sarja, Mysskin, Sandy and Gautham Menon.It was released in multiple languages - including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.
