Veteran actor Vijayakant, who has been not at the best of his health for a while now, recently underwent a surgery for the removal of his toes. Doctors had to amputate his toe due to diabetes and the procedure was held at a private hospital in Chennai. The actor is recovering and his condition is said to be stable now.
An official statement from the actor's political party Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) issued a statement today about his health condition. Though the rumour was that three toes of the actor were amputated, the statement said that only one toe was removed. The statement added that since the blood circulation was restricted in his right leg, his toe had to be amputated. The surgery took place on Monday. The actor has been advised complete bed rest for some time and is likely to back home after a couple of days. The statement urged everyone to not believe in rumours that were being circulated on social media about the actor's health.
Vijayakant has been confined to his house for a while now due to his ill health. Though the actor was supposed to make his acting comeback with Vijay Antony's Mazhai Pidikkatha Manithan, his portions remained uncanned due to his health condition. He has not been active on the political front as well and has refrained from contesting elections in the recent past.
In the meantime, his contemporary in films, Superstar Rajinikanth had wished the actor a speedy recovery on his social media handle. Rajinikanth wrote, "I sincerely pray to god that my friend Vijayakanth recovers soon and roars back as Captain." Vijayakant is fondly known as Captain by his fans. The title stuck to the actor after he worked in the super hit film, Captain Prabhakaran. Vijayakant was last seen in his son Shanmugapandian's debut venture, Sagaptham, which hit screens in 2015.
