It seems after the blockbuster success of 2018, the floodgates of opportunities have truly opened for Malayalam director Jude Anthany Joseph. The filmmaker, who had recently signed a film to be produced by Lyca Productions that has bankrolled movies such as Ponniyin Selvan and Indian 2, is now set to make his foray into Tamil.
He had earlier said that he is planning a ‘mass’ entertainer with Vijay Sethupathi and Nivin Pauly, though he is yet to bounce off the script with the Farzi actor. There were also rumours that Vikram will be joining hands with the director for his Tamil debut. Another movie that was on the cards was Jude’s Malayalam film with Asif Ali.
The speculations have already got a lot of fans from both Malayalam and Tamil excited, and that’s why OTTplay decided to hear it straight from the horse’s mouth. Jude tells us, “I will be doing a film with Asif. But it won’t happen soon. My next project will be a Tamil film with Lyca Productions.”

Ask him if this the project with Vikram in the lead and the filmmaker says, “Those are just tales that people are spinning. I don’t know where all this information is coming from.” Though Jude doesn’t confirm if the ‘mass’ entertainer with Nivin and Vijay Sethupathi will be his Tamil debut with Lyca, he says, “That project is still on. I have discussed the script with both of them. However, we are yet to finalise the cast of the film. Once that’s done, we will officially announce it.”
The upcoming film will mark Jude’s fifth directorial after Ohm Shaanti Oshaana, Oru Muthassi Gadha, Sara’s and 2018, which is currently the highest-grossing Malayalam movie ever. The film, starring Tovino Thomas, Asif, Lal and Narain, is based on the 2018 Kerala floods.
