The on-screen chemistry between Vikram Chatterjee and Madhumita Sarcar in Sudeep Das’ Kuler Achaar has already been well appreciated. The film delves into the life of Mishi, played by Madhumita, who refuses to change her surname after marriage. The film is all set to release on July 15.

This is for the first time Vikram and Madhumita will share the screen. The actor is very optimistic with the reaction he has received so far. “We heard a lot of appreciation for our on-screen chemistry. Kuler Achaar can be a stepping stone to creating a bankable pair.”

Between 2015 and 2017, Vikram used to shoot for Icche Nodee for Star Jalsha with Solanki Roy. Madhumita used to shoot Kusum Dola in the same studio with Rishi Kaushik. Vikram was under the impression that they would make a good pair on screen. “I could never tell her this since we never spoke. Much later, she told me that she used to think of me as an arrogant man. I shared my idea with Solanki though,” quips the actor.

Further on the subject tackled in Kuler Achaar, Vikram says that he would never expect his partner to change surname. He says that he believes in equality. Sharing his past experience, he says, “Many years ago, when I was really dating someone, she once told me that all social conversions are set for women, especially married women. I told her that if she wanted, I would also wear something of her choice to show that I am married. Of course, it has to look good on me. I could wear a kada – a Punjabi-style bangle. Why should it be only women?”

But he also adds that the debates of social conventions are still relevant. “If we step out of urban areas, we will see that changing surnames is not an option but rather a compulsion for women,” the actor points out.
