Kamal Haasan along with director Lokesh Kanagaraj held a press meet in Chennai, as a part of Vikram promotions. Billed as a high-octane action drama, the film (also featuring Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil), is slated to be released on June 3.
Speaking at the event, Lokesh Kanagaraj said, it was no secret that he's a huge Kamal Haasan fan. “Vikram is special to me because I got to direct the master himself this early in my career, which I never thought was possible. Kamal sir is the reason I'm into films.”
And, Lokesh Kanagaraj is confident about the film's success. “We've made a good film. I hope Vikram will fulfil everyone's expectations”, he added.
Kamal Haasan apologised to the press for coming in late. He explained he was caught in a traffic jam. “I equally apologise to my fans for making them wait for four years,” Haasan remarked, adding that he's keen to promote Vikram across the country, including Malaysia.
The actor-politician hinted at Vikram part 3. “Without speaking to Lokesh, I have decided that he will direct part 3 of Vikram if it happens in future.”
Kamal Haasan said it was the idea of Lokesh Kanagaraj to name this film, Vikram. “Who knows? Lokesh could have named it Sathya, too. I mentioned a character from the original. He said that he wanted to take it from there and built a story around it!”
Kamal Haasan lauded the technicians for having put their hard work and effort into the Vikram making. “Most of them went beyond the call of duty to ensure the quality of the film was top-notch. It has been many days since they had a good sleep. Hence, I request everyone to honour them by watching Vikram in the theatres,” he noted.
Speaking about how Vikram was shot amid the Covid-19 Pandemic, Kamal Haasan said they filmed in open locations. “Despite following precautions, I ended up catching Coronavirus. That was because I was travelling!”
Vikram is hitting the screens on June 3, which is incidentally Kalaignar Karunanidhi's birth anniversary. “This is simply a coincidence. We wanted to release Vikram on May 29, the same day the 1986-film (directed by Rajashekar) got released. Owing to unforeseen reasons, we couldn't get the film out on that date. Instead, we are arriving on June 3.” Kamal Haasan spoke about narrating the story of Dasavatharam to the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. “He told me writing for films was a special talent and encouraged the writer in me more.”
Kamal Haasan threw light on his long-pending Indian 2, directed by Shankar. “The film will certainly happen. Talks are going on to resume its shooting!” A sequel to the 1994 Tamil blockbuster Indian, Indian 2 has music by Anirudh Ravichander. The rest of the cast and crew are yet to be revealed.
Team Vikram also screened the lyrical video of Porkanda Singam, composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The melody, sung by Ravi G, has visuals tapping the emotional side of Kamal Haasan's character. Porkanda Singam has lyrics by Vishnu Edavan and has garnered over 5.8 million views thus far.
Vikram has editing by Philomin Raj, cinematography by Girish Gangadharan and action choreography by Anbariv.
