Vikram's much-awaited Cobra release date to be announced tomorrow

The release date for the much-awaited Chiyaan Vikram-starrer Cobra is all set to be released tomorrow. The film's director, Ajay Gnanamuthu, made the announcement on his social media page. He wrote, "#CobraReleaseUpdate at 6PM Tomorrow 🔥#Cobra #ChiyaanVikram An @AjayGnanamuthu Film 🎬 An @arrahman Musical 🥁 @7screenstudio @IrfanPathan @SrinidhiShetty @roshanmathew22 @theedittable @dop_harish @dhilipaction @SonyMusicSouth @proyuvraaj (sic)."

Cobra is an action thriller that features an ensemble cast comprising Srinidhi Shetty, Miya George, Padmapriya Janakiraman, Kaniha, Roshan Mathew, Sarjano Khalid, Mrinalini Ravi, Meenakshi Govindarajan, KS Ravikumar, Babu Antony, Poovavaiyar and Mohammad Ali Baig. While the film marks the Tamil debut of Mamukoya and Srinidhi Shetty, it will also mark the acting debut of former cricketer Irfan Pathan. Music for the film is by AR Rahman. While cinematography is by Harish Kannan, editing is by Bhuvan Srinivasan.

Ajay Gnanamuthu had earlier helmed films like Demonte Colony and Imaikka Nodigal. Though the film was slated to release much earlier, the pandemic delayed the plan. Ajay had slashed his remuneration by 40 per cent for the film. Produced by Lalit Kumar of Seven Screen Studios, in association with Viacom18, Cobra went on floors in August 2019. "This film will be a pan-Indian project, catering to the Tamil, Hindi and Telugu audience," a statement from the makers had read.

The shoot for the film was wrapped up in February. Ajay had then taken to his social media handle to share the news, "He posted, "IT’S A WRAP!! Close to 3 years of filming comes to an end!! My sincere thanks to #ChiyaanVikram sir and my entire team who trusted me, sailed through all the struggles and difficult times with me and believed in the vision of #Cobra !! Forever indebted to each one of u! (sic)."

Cobra has Vikram playing a brilliant mathematician, who uses numbers to solve crimes in the film. Irfan Pathan is said to be playing an Interpol officer. In the meantime, we hear that that Ajay Gnanamuthu and Vikram are likely to reunite for another project.
