The Lullaby song from his upcoming film Vikrant Rona is leading man Kiccha Sudeep’s favourite from the soundtrack. The new single, the Kannada version of which came out on Saturday, comes as a special ode to fatherhood and the beautiful relationship that a father shares with his daughter. Sudeep has a daughter, as does director Anup Bhandari, so it comes as no surprise that they both find this song special.

In fact, for Anup, the song is even dearer because it is one that he wrote and composed for his little one and has now got music man Ajaneesh Loknath to put it together for the film with Vijay Prakash’s vocals. Anup dedicated the song to all the wonderful fathers and their lovely daughters and tweeted that his very own ‘Rajkumari’ inspired him to write and compose the song.

While Anup has immense prowess and grasp of the Kannada language, it was understood that he would want to write some of the songs from the film. But he has now gone ahead and written the lyrics for the Hindi version of the song as well, which marks his debut as lyricist in Bollywood.

When asked about writing the Hindi lyrics, Anup said that the confidence to attempt it stemmed from having learnt the language in school till about class 7. “But more than that I have listened to pretty much every Hindi song that came out in the 90s, along with the classics from the 50s to the 80s. I can’t speak the language fluently, but I can write and sing,” said Anup.

The Lullaby song is the second song from the film to have been released. Initially, the makers had a promotional plan in which all the songs, including Hey Fakira, Gumma Banda Gumma and Chikki Bombe, would be released ahead of the film. But now, with just over three weeks to go for the film’s theatrical outing, it remains to be seen what else is in store.

Vikrant Rona will release in theatres in 3D on July 28.
