Vimanam was a moving father-son drama that released in theatres in two languages - Tamil and Telugu - simultaneously in the second week of June. Samuthirakani, Master Dhruvan played the lead roles in the film that featured a handful of familiar faces - Meera Jasmine, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Rahul Ramakrishna, Dhanraj, Naan Kadavul Rajendran, to name a few.
The film was written and directed by the debutant Siva Prasad Yanala, who was associated with the popular comedy show Jabardasth on small screen. Vimanam released to mixed responses from critics but enjoyed a decent run in theatres for over three weeks despite competition from biggies like Adipurush and several other small budget films. Now, the drama is out on OTT.
Noted OTT platform Zee5 acquired its post-theatrical streaming rights and began premiering the film across both the languages this Friday i.e. June 30. The fairly simple story revolves around a physically challenged father who is ready to go to any length to fulfil his son’s wish of boarding an aeroplane. What are the challenges that come his way and how does he resolve them? Watch out for the film to know more.
In a promotional event, the director claimed that several interactions and experiences with his son inspired him to make Vimanam. It was Dhanraj who convinced Samuthirakani to come on board for the project. Kiran Korrapati, son of a noted Telugu journalist, who turned a director with Ghani, bankrolled the film in collaboration with Zee Studios.
Meera Jasmine returned to Telugu cinema after a long sabbatical with the project and shot only for a day for her special appearance in the climax. Some opined that the thread in Vimanam revolving around a cobbler and a prostitute, played by Rahul Ramakrishna and Anasuya, could’ve been written better. Vivek Kalepu cranked the camera for the film which had music by Charan Arjun.
