Vin Diesel has laid out three requirements that must be met for the next and last installment of the Fast & Furious series, which Universal Pictures plans to release in April 2027. At Saturday's FuelFest in Southern California, the 57-year-old actor assured fans that the series finale will reunite him with Brian O'Conner's character, centre on street racing, and return to Los Angeles.

Vin Diesel reveals his three demands to Universal

Diesel informed the ecstatic audience, "Just yesterday, I was with Universal Studios... The studio said to me, 'Vin, can we please have the finale of Fast and Furious in April 2027?' I said under three conditions: the first is to bring the franchise back to LA, the second is to return to the car culture, and the third is to return to street racing. The third thing was reuniting Dom and Brian O'Connor."

Diesel first appeared in the Fast & Furious films in 2001, portraying the role of Dominic Toretto, a master mechanic and street racer. The 10 main films in the series share a common theme of "family" and are renowned for their high-octane stunts and spectacular action set pieces. A spinoff (Hobbs & Shaw), two feature films, and an animated Netflix series called Fast & Furious: Spy Racers are all part of the same universe.

Paul Walker's legacy and the return of Brian O'Conner

Diesel's desire for a meeting with Brian O'Conner prompts inevitable enquiries. The character was played by Paul Walker, who died in a tragic car accident in 2013 while Fast & Furious 7 was in production. Cody and Caleb Walker, who are brothers, filled in as body doubles and helped finish the film with visual effects and computer-generated imagery.

Brian was canonically kept alive in the franchise even though he was written out of the action in the seventh film. Rumours of his potential return for the finale, possibly with the assistance of Walker's family and similar visual effects, will bring fans of the show a sense of emotional fulfilment.

Fast X and road ahead

Fast X was directed by Louis Leterrier and was the most current release in 2023. Regulars like Michelle Rodriguez and newcomers like Jason Momoa and Alan Ritchson were all part of it.

Universal has not officially announced the plot or production details of the latest installment. Diesel is both an actor and a producer, and his remarks give the impression that he would like the series to end in a way that honours one of its most beloved characters while returning to its street racing origins.
