The Malik actor tells OTTplay why his role in Mahesh Narayanan’s Fahadh Faasil-starrer Malik will always be special
Those who have seen Mahesh Narayanan’s epic crime saga Malik would have also noticed apart from Fahadh Faasil’s and Nimisha Sajayan’s stellar performances, Vinay Forrt, who played David Christudas in the film, had an equally important role that had the actor put on his career-best work yet.
In an interview with OTTplay, Vinay had said how special the movie is to him. “Malik is a big film in all sense of the word. In the past, when movies were made on this budget, you were usually given a mace and asked to stand in the side. I never expected to be given so much space in such a big commercial film. I remember Maheshettan one day calling me and saying that he wanted to make this movie with Fahadh, me and Nimisha. I thought he was pitching it like that so I agreed to do the movie and ultimately, I would just be there for 4-5 scenes in the film,” the Thamaasha actor said.
While reading the script, Vinay said that he was hooked on the part. “Content-wise, even though Malik is a film led by Fahadh, Maheshettan through his writing and making has done justice to every character. It was a golden opportunity for me. About 90% of the characters that are offered to me have some sort of inferiority complex. Especially after Thamaasha, I have been getting roles of a youth who is struggling to find a bride. That’s when Churuli and Malik happened. Both these characters have shades of grey, just like ordinary people. I also think every character in Malik is like that,” he said.
On getting into the skin of the character, Vinay said, “I didn’t know who David Christudas is. I had to put in a lot of effort to play someone like him who after a point in his life loses everything, while his friend Sulaiman (Fahadh) achieves all he set out for… Maheshettan is so clear about how a character walks, talks and even moves his eye in each of those shots and we have to meet those parameters, which is a Herculean task. With Malik, apart from understanding the script and learning my lines, I went there as a clean slate and did exactly what Maheshettan told me.”
