Jailer star Vinayakan hits out at Suresh Kumar for comments on actors turning producers - 'Tell your wife, daughter not to...'

Vinayakan, who has played several notable roles including in Rajinikanth's Jailer, has hit out at Suresh Kumar after the producer made some comments about actors producing films. In a Facebook post, Vinayakan slammed Suresh Kumar, saying that cinema is not the private property of the Malayalam film producer and those supporting him.

Vinayakan reacts to Suresh Kumar's comments

Suresh Kumar recently made headlines when he pointed out that Malayalam cinema is going through a crisis and spoke disapprovingly about actors who have turned producers.

Vinayakan, who is not the one to mince words, hit back at Suresh Kumar in a Facebook post. "Is cinema the family property of you and those who stand with you? You can tell your wife and daughter that actors should not be producing films. I will produce, direct, distribute and present films as well. This is India, Jai Hind,” Vinayakan wrote in Malayalam.

For the unversed, Suresh Kumar is the husband of yesteryear actress Menaka Suresh. Keerthy Suresh is their daughter, who has appeared in notable films such as Mahanati. Keerthy Suresh, who got married in 2024, was last seen in Varun Dhawan-starrer Baby John.

Suresh Kumar about Malayalam cinema

G. Suresh Kumar, an official of the Kerala Film Producers’ Association (KFPA), had earlier claimed that the huge remuneration sought by stars cannot be justified and this adds to the burden of Malayalam cinema.

In an interview with Manorama, he also spoke about actors producing films. “Before Covid, only two actors produced films - Mohanlal and Dilip. Others started production after the popularity of OTT post-Covid,” he pointed out. They now call and say that producer should give the money, while they will look at production, he remarked.

This comment has apparently irked Vinayakan who has slammed the producer. Suresh Kumar hasn’t responded to Vinaykan’s remarks so far.

Meanwhile, Vinayakan, who is noted for his performances in Kammatipaadam, was last seen in Thekku Vadakku. Outside Kerala, he is probably best known for playing the villain in Jailer, starring Rajinikanth. The Malayalam actor will also be seen in a key role alongside Mammootty in a film, directed by Jithin K Jose.
