Implementing an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) has been a matter of discussion for a long time in Malayalam cinema. With many complaints regarding the gender disparities, the industry has been blowing up as well. However, the upcoming Senna Hegde directorial 1744 White Alto has taken the initiative, by setting up an ICC on the sets, for the first time in Mollywood.
The Sharafudheen starrer backed by Mrinal Mukundan, Vinod Divakar and Sreejith Nair, also features actors including Vincy Aloshious, Ann Salim and Sminu Joy. In a recent chat with Times Of India, Vincy has opened up about the big step of 1744 WA on the background of her own insights.
She revealed that her mother who accompanied her on the sets were always worried about her safety, though the actor used to feel safe. The news about ICC has certainly relieved her mother, and has put an end to her share of worries, Vincy said. She is also of the opinion that it is a prevention of harassment towards everyone, rather than being a step for women safety. “A film set has men, women and transgender people and all of the would benefit from it”, she affirmed.
Vincy had also shared the Code of Conduct issued by ICC, on her Instagram earlier. “Not just for female’s..Code of conduct for all the cast and crew of 1744WA, malayalam movie by Senna Hegde and team!!!”, her caption reads. The Conduct orders the team to behave to one another with respect, and explains the behavioural patterns that would be considered as sexual harassment.
Meanwhile, the need of ICC was constantly raised by the women group in Malayalam cinema Women in Collective Cinema (WCC). The demand was also put forward by the Hema Commission, which aims to study women’s toils in the industry.
