Vineeta Singh, of Shark Tank India fame, recalls days of struggle: Din't have cable TV at home

Not everything was nice and rosy in Shark Tank India contestant Vineeta Singh's life. And in an interview, she revealed the tough circumstances under which she had to take her JEE test.

They say before it gets better, it gets worse. And this proverb resonates the most with Shark Tank India's Vineeta Singh.

The CEO of renowned cosmetic brand SUGAR, was once living under difficult financial circumstances and did not even have cable TV at home, as claimed in a report by News18.

In an interview with Indian writer Chetan Bhagat, which the News18 report is based on, Singh spoke about her initial years and how she and her family had to survive with whatever little they had at their disposal, before going on to share that her father had grown up in poverty and had lost both his parents agt the age of five. 

"... He studied at Allahabad University and then ISC, from where he did his PhD and then he got a job with AIIMS Delhi, which was a big deal," she spoke of her father's inspiring journey.

Singh also said that for her father, education was of utmost importance regardless of gender. "For him... one needs to study a lot. From the very beginning, his mindset was, do whatever; it needs to be the best in the world," shared Singh. 

Talking about her life before taking the JEE test, Vineeta Singh recalled how the family didn't even have cable TV at home and she had nothing to watch except for Doordarshan. She delved into her family dynamics and told Bhagat that family "is the most important" aspect of her life. 

"... I will give up anything for it. I have mentally thought about it many times that if I had to choose between my family and an amazing career - I would choose family for sure," she said, as reported by News18. 

Shark Tank India's Vineet Singh, who has been an inspiration to many young women because of her inspirational journey to the top, talked about her insecurities and how running helped her cope with self-doubt.
