Malayalam film Oru Jaathi Jathakam, starring Vineeth Sreenivasan, has landed in legal trouble. The Kerala High Court has issued a notice against the recently released Malayalam film for allegedly 'humiliating' and using derogatory language against members of the LGBTQ+ community, Live Law has reported. Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Oru Jaathi Jathakam, directed by M Mohanan, was released in theatres on January 31, 2025. Now, a petition was filed in the court, alleging that the movie used derogatory language to refer to the LGBTQ+ community. Certain dialogues in the film are derogatory and humiliating towards the community, as per the petition. The petitioner also urged the HC to direct the state to take action.

After admitting and reviewing the petition, the Kerala High Court has issued a notice to the CBFC and the makers of the film, according to various media reports.

Neither the film’s makers nor the actors have made any official statements about the issue.

The film narrates the tale of a 37-year-old man named Jayesh, who is seeking to find a partner through an arranged marriage. The plot develops through Jayesh’s interactions with various women. 

On social media, some netizens called out the film for its narration and treatment of characters.

Vineeth Sreenivasan headlines Oru Jaathi Jathakam, which is written by Rakesh Mantodi. The film is directed by M Mohanan, who had previously helmed Aravindante Athidhikal which also starred Vineeth Sreenivasan and Nikhila film.

The film, produced by Maha Subair, also features PP Kunhikrishnan, Nikhila Vimal, Sayanora Philip, Babu Antony, Isha Talwar, and Pooja Mohanraj, among several others.

Oru Jaathi Jathakam was earlier slated to release in 2024 and the teaser was also unveiled in early March. However, the film got postponed. Finally, the film released in theatres in January 2025.
