Producer Vipul Shah has stated that every available legal option has been exhausted in order to assure the release of The Kerala Story. He noted, however, that they will be helpless if they try to take the fight to the streets against thugs.

Earlier this month, the film The Kerala Story was released; however, it has since been banned in the Indian state of West Bengal. The film's producers took the matter to court, and the Supreme Court (SC) recently ordered the state to lift the bans. The court, presided over by India's Chief Justice, DY Chandrachud, also directed the Tamil Nadu government to take all necessary precautions to guarantee the screening of the movie and the safety of viewers. The bench said that because the CBFC has approved the film, it is the responsibility of the state government to ensure public safety.

Vipul responded that they did everything they could within the law when DNA asked if he would take any legal action to ensure the screening of his film. The Supreme Court has the last say over all matters in the country. Now, they would want to see the Supreme Court act on its initiative to punish these governments severely enough that they learn their lesson. The Supreme Court has overturned the ban. They will be unable to take the fight to the streets with the party thugs after this.

Mamata Banerjee, chief minister of West Bengal, banned the film because she called it a "distorted story." The state government has stated that the ban was put in place to protect peace and harmony in the state. According to Section 6 of the West Bengal Cinemas (Regulation) Act, the state may prohibit or stop the public showing of a film if it determines that such a showing is likely to result in a disturbance of the peace.

Yogita Bihani, Adah Sharma, and Sonia Balani are also in the Sudipto Sen-directed movie. Several people voiced concern after the film's trailer stated that 32,000 women disappeared in the state of Kerala. The film implied that these women were all coerced into joining the terrorist organisation ISIS.

After receiving criticism, the filmmakers removed the character and rebranded the film as "the story of three women from Kerala" for the promotional trailer.
