Sai Dharam Tej couldn’t have asked for a better comeback than Virupaksha after a precarious phase in his personal life. The star in him took a backseat and he trusted director Karthik Dandu solely on the merit of the script. Several biggies in April met with an indifferent fate and just when the industry was banking on May releases for a turnaround, Virupaksha set the record straight by scoring a hit.

While the film collected an impressive Rs 6.25 share on day one worldwide (as reported by Andhra Box Office), the festive weekend has immensely boosted its prospects on day two. Virupaksha bettered its day one tally by 22%, earning Rs 5.80 crore in the Telugu states (it was Rs 4.75 crore on day 1). On the whole, the film has garnered nearly Rs 10.60 crore share in AP and Telangana in two days.

Of the Rs 10.60 crore tally, the Nizam collections for two days were Rs 4.53 crore. Virupaksha managed nearly Rs 90 lakhs in the ceded regions on day two. However, the biggest surprise with Virupaksha was its US (North America) collections, scaling past the half million dollar mark in two days. The mystical thriller is distributed by Sarigama Cinemas in the US.

Noticing the demand, more shows are being added in Telugu states and the US. Looking at the trends, it appears that Virupaksha will comfortably touch a million dollars at the US box office. Several big names in the industry have praised the film for the performances and the technical values already and the thriller is set to end the weekend on a bang.

Samyuktha Menon scored her fourth hit in Telugu cinema with the thriller that also starred Sai Chand, Ajay, Sunil and Brahmaji. Produced by BVSN Prasad under Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra in collaboration with Sukumar Writings, the film had music by B Ajaneesh Lokanath. Shamdat Sainudeen is the cinematographer and Sri Nagendra Tangala is the production designer. Navin Nooli edited the film.
