Virupaksha, starring Sai Dharam Tej, Samyuktha Menon in the lead roles, is written and directed by debutant Karthik (Varma) Dandu, a former associate of Sukumar. The Pushpa filmmaker has penned the screenplay of the film bankrolled by BVSN Prasad in collaboration with Sukumar Writings. B Ajaneesh Lokanath, who’d worked on Kantara, Vikrant Rona, is the composer.
Amidst heavy expectations, the film, that marks the return of Sai Dharam Tej after a road mishap, released in theatres today. The story revolves around Surya(Sai Dharam Tej), a native of Rudravaram, who falls for Nandini (Samyuktha). When a series of deaths shock the residents, a headman doesn’t permit anyone to enter or leave the village for eight days. Meanwhile, Surya is desperate to find answers.
The film has opened to glowing reviews from critics and netizens. While calling it a perfect comeback film for Sai Dharam Tej and praising Samyuktha’s performance, viewers are all praise for the technicalities of the film - its cinematography, production design, background score and sound design. Crowds are happy with the film’s twists and said it truly runs on the merit of the director.
The thriller is full of spine chilling moments, great screen-writing, the viewers applauded the writer-director. Sukumar’s screenplay also received its due from audiences and they said it was throughly gripping. Noticing the popularity for the film, the makers even requested crowds to not share the key twists and spoil the experience for others.
Ajay, Sunil, Brahmaji and Sai Chand are other popular actors in the film. Shamdat Sainudeen, the cinematographer of Uppena and Ranga Ranga Vaibhavanga, cranked the camera. Navin Nooli edited the film and Avinash Kolla is the production designer. Post its theatrical run, Virupaksha will be out on Netflix by the end of May. For now, the film is expected to have a solid opening.
