Since its announcement in September, Vishal Bhardwaj's Khufiya has attracted interest. While Tabu and Ali Fazal shot a significant portion of the espionage thriller in Delhi and Mumbai over the previous several months, the latest reports have it that the cast and crew have now relocated to Canada for the Netflix film's final schedule.
From Maqbool (2003) through Haider (2014), the majority of Bhardwaj's stories have been set in or adapted to an Indian setting, leaving a limited opportunity to shoot in other countries. 7 Khoon Maaf (2011) was an exception, with a segment of the film shot in Russia. Khufiya is one of the director's few foreign shootings, based on Amar Bhushan's novel Escape to Nowhere.
As per Mid Day, according to a source close to the unit, the final leg will begin soon. The source said that Tabu and Ali left for Canada earlier this week. Vishal has planned a three-week itinerary, starting in Calgary. The international leg was supposed to happen sooner, but it had to be postponed due to the pandemic's third wave in January. They would also join Wamiqa Gabbi, who plays a vital role. The film, which follows an R&AW agent sent to find a mole peddling India's defence secrets, is slated to be released online by the end of the year.
Earlier, in a statement, Bhardwaj said that his goal with Khufiya was to make an edgy spy thriller that balances the gradual burn of intelligence and surveillance work with one's profound emotional issues.
While Tabu shared that Khufiya is a one-of-a-kind initiative that is near and dear to her heart. The actor is thrilled to be a part of it. It's always a pleasure to work with VB, and it feels like coming home for her.
Vishal Bhardwaj has co-written Khufiya with Rohan Narula.
