Vishnu Vishal on Thursday issued a clarification after facing the backlash on social media for using the term 'superstars' while addressing Kamal Haasan and Aamir Khan. The controversy began when Vishnu Vishal tweeted a photo of himself flanked by Kamal and Aamir.

"A favourite pic with all favourites. Superstars are superstars for a reason," he captioned the photo. It seems that Vishnu Vishal celebrated Deepavali with Kamal and Aamir in Chennai.

However, the fans of Superstar Rajinikanth took exception to Vishnu Vishal's caption and started trolling him. To pacify the fans, he later altered the caption to "stars are stars for a reason." Even that was not enough to appease the fans who continued their attacks.

In the face of relentless trolling, Vishnu Vishal directly addressed the controversial tweet. "Superstars are superstars for a reason…. Just caz i edited my tweet doesn make me weak… I love everyone who is a superstar… So all of u tryin to spread negativity on my timeline just buzz off…. There will be only one SUPERSTAR title for us…but superstars are everyone who have achieved way beyond my respect Love all Spread love Not hatred…. God bless," he tweeted.

In Tamil cinema, the word 'Superstar' is not just another noun. It holds a special significance for fans of Rajinikanth and they get very touchy it's used to address any other big stars in the Tamil film industry.

Little did Vishnu Vishal know that his "favourite photo" would trigger a huge fan war on social media.

It's worth noting that Vishnu Vishal will be sharing the screen space with Rajinikanth in the upcoming movie Lal Salaam. Written and directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth, the film stars Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in the lead roles. And Rajinikanth had played an extended cameo in the movie, which seems like a commentary on the politics of hatred.

Lal Salaam is due in cinemas during the Pongal festival next year.
