Laila is Vishwak Sen's upcoming film, set to hit the screens on February 14, 2025. Initially, the film had a low buzz, but things picked up significantly when none other than Megastar Chiranjeevi attended the pre-release event as the chief guest. However, some speeches at the event sparked controversy, particularly one by actor "30 Years" Prithvi, who took a dig at the YCP government led by YS Jagan.
His remarks targeting sitting MLAs did not sit well with the party members, who quickly began attacking the film’s makers and Vishwak Sen on social media. A boycott campaign with the hashtag #BoycottLaila started trending, garnering over 25,000 tweets. This backlash deeply unsettled the film’s team, leading to panic among the makers.

In response, Vishwak Sen and producer Sahu Garapati organized a press conference to clarify their connection to Prithvi’s statements. They urged people to leave the film out of the controversy, emphasizing that banning a movie affects the livelihoods of many, as crores of rupees are at stake. Vishwak Sen also issued an apology, addressing both the media and YCP party leaders. He said that if anyone was hurt by Prithvi’s words, he sincerely apologized on their behalf.
At the press meet, Vishwak Sen expressed his frustration, questioning why controversies always seem to surround his films. Despite the uproar, the controversy unexpectedly worked in Laila's favor. Many were unaware of the film’s release, but thanks to Chiranjeevi’s presence and the incident involving 30 Years Prithvi, Laila gained significant attention.
Social media trends can make or break a film, and while negative publicity can sometimes harm a project, in this case, it seems to have boosted interest in Laila. A similar situation was observed with Ram Charan’s Game Changer, where negative buzz was created on social media from day one.
Laila features Akanksha Singh as the female lead, with music composed by Leon James. Vishwak Sen plays a unique role as a woman in the film. Now, all eyes are on the box office to see if this controversy will translate into success for Laila.
