Vishwambhara is one of the most-awaited Chiranjeevi films set to release in 2025. The fantasy drama was initially scheduled to hit the screens on January 10, 2025, as a Sankranthi special. However, Chiranjeevi stepped back from this date to accommodate his son Ram Charan’s Game Changer, which was released on the same day.

Vishwambhara struggling to find a release date

We at OTTplay had earlier reported that Vishwambhara was rescheduled for May 9, 2025, with Chiranjeevi locking in the new release date. However, recent reports suggest that the film is still facing delays and may not be able to meet this release timeline. A source close to the production team has revealed two primary reasons for this delay.

Firstly, the VFX work remains incomplete. The makers have outsourced the graphics work to multiple companies, and the post-production process is still underway. Secondly, no OTT platform has yet secured the film’s digital rights. In the past, both Amazon Prime Video and Netflix had shown interest in acquiring the rights, but negotiations stalled as the makers demanded a higher price.

Vishwambhara faces OTT deal issues

In recent times, OTT platforms have become more cautious about investing heavily in big-budget films featuring star heroes like Chiranjeevi, as his movies tend to perform better in theaters than on streaming platforms.

The negotiations for digital rights are still ongoing, and it remains to be seen which platform will secure the film. A similar situation occurred with Chiranjeevi's previous film, Bholaa Shankar, where Netflix hesitated before finally purchasing the streaming rights. Given that Bholaa Shankar underperformed at the box office, streaming platforms are now more hesitant to invest heavily in Chiranjeevi’s films.

Vishwambhara is being made on a massive budget, and the makers are keen to secure a strong OTT deal to ensure financial stability ahead of its theatrical release. However, delays in post-production and unresolved OTT negotiations have led to further postponements.

Directed by Vassishta, the film stars Trisha Krishnan as the female lead, with music composed by MM Keeravani. On the other hand, Chiranjeevi is all set to join hands with Anil Ravipudi for a comedy caper. Anil last directed Sankranthiki Vasthunnam which is a rage on Zee 5 and OTTplay Premium ever since it started streaming. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated project.
