Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri recently opened up about what he calls the ‘dark underbelly’ of Bollywood. The filmmaker penned a note about what he called an ‘inside story’ of the industry, detailing some of the ‘soul crushing’ aspects of Bollywood.

The filmmaker shared the note on his official Twitter handle. In it, he said that after working in Bollywood for so long, he was able to understand how the industry works, claiming that the reality is far from what people see on the surface. The filmmaker spoke of how the ‘dark alleys’ of the industry are scattered with shattered, trampled and buried dreams, saying Bollywood is both a ‘museum of talent’ as well as a ‘cemetery of talent’.

The filmmaker went on to speak of how aspiring talent can go through brutal rejection and humiliation form the industry, which is capable of destroying their self worth. Agnihotri also claimed that some people who ‘make it’ in the industry also have to put up appearances and bury their dreams as well, in what he calls a ‘hollow race of validation’.

Check out Agnihotri’s note below:

Agnihotri has hit out against Bollywood numerous times before as well. Recently, the filmmaker had also seemingly taken a veiled dig at Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, saying “As long as Bollywood has Kings, Badshahs, Sultans, it will keep sinking”.

The director’s last film came in the form of The Kashmir Files, starring Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi in lead roles. The film, which can be streamed on ZEE5, went on to become one of the highest grossing Hindi films of the year.

Agnihotri is currently working on his upcoming project, titled The Delhi Files. The upcoming film will reportedly revolve around the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, and the filmmaker had revealed that the film would also include stories from Tamil Nadu as well.
