Vivek Oberoi celebrated 20 years of Company yesterday, which marked his acting debut. The actor has now opened up about what he learnt from Mohanlal, Ajay Devgn and Ram Gopal Varma.
Talking to The Indian Express, the actor said that he always came prepared to set, which is why he never got many tips as an actor, but he took away “life lessons” from his two co-stars and director.
He recalled how Mohanlal, who played the role of Mumbai City Police Commissioner Veerappallil Srinivasan, would write his Hindi dialogues in Malayalam on bits of paper and leave them around the room. The actor would then read the Hindi dialogues written in Malayalam.
When Vivek asked the star how he was able to do it, he said that acting is not about dialogues and like in life, you need conviction in acting. Vivek added that this stuck with him and years later, when he made his Malayalam acting debut with Lucifer, he used the same technique to deliver his Malayalam dialogues.
Talking about Ajay, he said that the actor opened up to him about his financial struggles at the time following Raju Chacha and how he took it in his stride. Vivek said that the actor was strong and overcame difficulties and this is what he learnt from him.
Vivek also added that from director Ram Gopal Varma, he learnt to not care what people think about him and to live in the moment. He added that it was a privilege to have been part of Company and that the film gives him a sense of immortality through celluloid.
Vivek Oberoi was last seen in the third season of Inside Edge on Amazon Prime Video, and is currently working on his second Malayalam movie, Kaduva, starring Prithviraj Sukumaranan.
