Daniel Craig is back as detective Benoit Blanc with another thrilling investigation which claims to be 'impossible' to solve. Netflix finally dropped a video with some major revelations and sneak peeks into the remote town, weeks after the release date announcement. Wake Up Dead Man is the third instalment in Rian Johnson's Knives Out franchise that has quite a fan following since 2019, with its mysterious cases and, of course, Craig's charm! The film will first make a short theatrical run on November 26, later will drop on the streamer on December 12, 2025.
The mystery begins with the death of a priest in the parish. The 2-minute-18-second teaser shows the murder, which sends shock waves across the remote town. The lack of suspects prompts local police chief Geraldine Scott to team up with Benoit Blanc to unravel the mystery that defies to be solved.
Benoit Blanc says in the video, “A man gives a sermon. He then, in plain sight of everyone, walks into a sealed concrete box. Thirty seconds later, that man is lying dead. A classic, impossible crime.” This pretty much summarises the whole plot of the film.
Wake Up Dead Man promises a darker tone compared to the previous Knives Out films. While the first one was a typical mystery, Glass Onion was lavish and glamorous, and this new one is gothic and religious. Fans can expect less humour and a more somber tone as it deals with serious topics on faith.
The upcoming film is a modern take on vintage mystery themes. Wake Up Dead Man is inspired by classic books with religious characters, like in Agatha Christie's The Murder at the Vicarage and GK Chesterton's Father Brown stories. Filmmaker Rian Johnson gave a priest with a church setting on the third instalment, the perfect place to explore themes of guilt, morality, and the flawed nature of people. The film promises a deeper look into human behavior and their faith in God.
