Tollywood superstar Chiranjeevi's biggest hit of the year Waltair Veerayya is all set to make its debut on OTT on Monday. After running successfully in cinemas for 44 days, the action movie will be made available for streaming on Netflix from tonight. At midnight, the subscribers can stream the movie from the comforts of their homes.
Waltair Veerayya gave Chiranjeevi the much-needed break at the box office. After making an impressive comeback with Khaidi No 150 (2017), ending his 10-year sabbatical, the Tollywood superstar was struggling to deliver another commercial hit. His period drama Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, amid a lot of pre-release hype, opened to negative reviews and that impacted its performance at the cinemas in 2019. Acharya was released in 2022 and tanked at the box office without much of a fight. The Koratala Siva directorial was panned by both critics and the audience.
Chiranjeevi's Godfather, which was the remake of the Malayalam hit Lucifer, was hoped to end the star's dry spell at the box office. Even though it received some good reviews, the film didn't meet the expectations in terms of trade. Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's extended cameo in the movie helped a little in the film's collections in the Hindi state.
However, it's director Bobby Kolli who ended Chiranjeevi's losing streak at the box office. Waltair Veerayya was a bonafide commercial hit in Chiranjeevi's career after a long time.
Waltair Veerayya tells the story of an elder brother who moves heaven and earth to bring justice to his slain young brother. The movie saw Chiranjeevi letting his hair down as a happy-go-lucky fisherman, who's agreeable to a fault. And his innocence ends up costing a lot.
Waltair Veerayya also stars Ravi Teja in a key role of a police officer. The film also has Shruti Haasan and Catherine Tresa in the supporting roles.
